Laundry Assistance
If you don’t have laundry facilities or struggle with your laundry at home, we offer a low-cost door-to-door laundry run service. We collect and return your laundry, usually on the same day, washed, dried and folded. We also offer this service to people in hospital who don’t have anyone to do their personal laundry.

Handyman
Our friendly home handyman offers a range of services from putting up curtain poles, to putting together flatpack furniture, to programming a TV. He can also do light gardening and paint and decorate a room. Please note, he can’t do garden clearances or paint whole houses. This is a low-cost service, depending upon income.

Small aids
We accept referrals from health professionals to provide people who are leaving hospital, or have just left hospital, small aids to help them manage at home. This is a free service.

Setting up Lasting Power of Attorney
If you have, or someone you are close to has, recently been diagnosed with dementia, one important step is to consider applying for Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA). The paperwork can be complex, and solicitors can be expensive. We will explain what setting up a LPA means and how it works, and deal with application process for you. We offer this service at a low cost.

Activities and Events
Our new Silver Lining Social runs monthly, starting Wednesday 14 May 2025. We offer a light lunch, refreshments, games, and great company. We can also help you with transport; just phone us or send a message to ask us to arrange this for you.

Benefits advice
We can assist you to navigate the benefits you may be entitled to and handle all the paperwork on your behalf. Our advisor holds weekly sessions at St Gabriel’s Parish Centre in Heaton and St Martin’s Centre in Byker, by appointment only. For those with mobility issues, we can also arrange home visits. This is a free service.
We offer support with benefits such as Pension Credit, Attendance Allowance, and Carer’s Allowance.

Befriending
We all enjoy a little company. Our volunteer Befrienders offer a friendly face or voice – they can come to your home, meet up at a café, go with you on a shopping trip or to an activity. A Befriender can also be someone who calls you regularly on the phone for a chat, if that’s what you prefer. For your peace of mind, all of our Befrienders are trained and DBS checked.
