Get involved

Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do at Shine On.
They play a crucial role in transforming loneliness into meaningful connections, concerns into solutions, raising our profile, and even helping to raise vital funds that support our services.

Explore the ideal volunteering opportunity for you below.

  • Our volunteer Befrienders offer a friendly face to older people who may be housebound and lonely or don’t have family or friends nearby.

Our Befrienders might accompany the client on, for example, shopping trips or to a local café, or meet up in the client’s home. We offer all of our Befrienders full training and support.

  • Our volunteer Telephone Befrienders offer a friendly  voice to older people who may be housebound and lonely or don’t have family or friends nearby.

A regular call for a chat and catch-up can make all the difference. We offer all our Befrienders full training and support.

  • Can you help spread the word about Shine On and the services we offer? Our Speakers give short talks about the work we do to small groups and clubs. We provide training, support, publicity materials, and a presentation you can use.

  • We want as many people as possible to know about our services. If you have spare time each month to distribute our leaflets and posters to community centres, GP surgeries etc around the east of Newcastle, we’d love to hear from you.

  • We always need people to join our friendly team of volunteers at our community launderette in Shieldfield. You can volunteer as little or as much as suits you!
